Privacy Policy

Your privacy, protected in Canada

How Yobly handles your personal information under Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

This is a plain-language summary of how we handle your data. It is currently a DRAFT pending legal review and may change before final publication. Last updated: July 13, 2026

Section 1 · Information

What We Collect

We collect only what we need to run the marketplace:

  • Account info — your name, email, and (if you sign in with Google) basic profile details.
  • Job details — what you post, including the service you need, timing, and the location or address of the work.
  • Messages & reviews you send through the platform.
  • Payment info — handled by our payment partner (Stripe). We receive confirmation and limited details (like the last digits of a card), not your full card number.
  • Pro verification — for providers, business and identity documents you upload for KYC.
  • Usage & device — basic technical data (like log and device info) to keep the service secure and working.

Section 2 · Purpose

How We Use It

We use your information for clear, limited purposes — the ones you would expect:

  • To create your account and run the marketplace.
  • To match your job with suitable pros and let you exchange quotes and messages.
  • To process escrow-held payments and issue invoices and receipts.
  • To keep the platform safe — preventing fraud, abuse, and unsafe activity, and moderating messages.
  • To send you service emails (like confirmations and job updates). We ask for consent before using your data in ways you would not reasonably expect.

Section 3 · Automation

AI Processing

  • We use AI to help structure job descriptions, match you with pros, and support message moderation.
  • We do not sell your data, and our AI providers do not train their models on it. AI processing is configured to keep your information within Canada.
  • AI helps our team; it does not make final decisions about disputes or account actions on its own.

Section 4 · Sharing

Who We Share With

We never sell your personal information. We share it only as needed to run Yobly:

  • The other side of your job. When you book, the customer and pro see what they need to get the job done (for example, the pro sees the job location once booked).
  • Service providers that power Yobly — our hosting and database provider (Supabase), payments (Stripe), email delivery (Resend), and AI processing — each only for their part, under contract.
  • When the law requires — for example, to comply with a valid legal request or to protect safety and rights.

Section 5 · Where it lives

Your Data Stays in Canada

  • Our primary database is hosted in the Canada (Montreal) region. We chose it specifically to keep personal information in Canada under PIPEDA.
  • AI processing is configured to run within Canada as well.
  • Some service providers (like payment processing) may involve limited cross-border processing; where that happens, it is covered by contractual protections. We will always disclose this clearly.

Section 6 · How long

Retention

  • We keep your information only as long as needed to provide the service and to meet legal, tax, and accounting obligations.
  • Some records (like invoices and transaction history) are kept longer where the law requires.
  • When information is no longer needed, we securely delete or anonymize it.

Section 7 · Protection

Security

  • We use encryption in transit, database access controls (row-level security), and least-privilege access to protect your data.
  • Sensitive documents (like KYC files) are stored privately and only accessible to authorized staff.
  • No system is perfectly secure, but we work continuously to protect your information and will notify you and the authorities if a breach requires it.

Section 8 · PIPEDA rights

Your Rights

Under PIPEDA you can:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correct information that is wrong or out of date.
  • Withdraw consent or ask us to delete your data, subject to legal limits (for example, records we must keep).
  • Ask questions or make a complaint about how we handle your data — and escalate to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada if you are not satisfied.

To exercise any of these, contact us using the details below.

Section 9 · Cookies

Cookies & Similar Tech

  • We use cookies and similar technology that are necessary to sign you in, keep your session secure, and remember basic preferences.
  • We keep tracking to a minimum. If we ever add analytics or marketing cookies, we will ask for your consent first.
